Easy Read – Bus Card
Brighton and Hove Bus Company have a scheme which allows people to show the driver a yellow card, specific to them and their requirements of assistance whilst taking a journey on the bus. It may tell the driver, without having to verbally communicate, that they have epilepsy or that the driver needs to wait until they are seated before driving off.
Now, due to the coronavirus and the government asking people to wear a face mask whilst travelling on public transport, some people with learning disabilities tell us they are scared of wearing face masks on the bus. Because of this Speak Out talked to Brighton and Hove Bus Company about what could be done and they were very helpful.
If you have a disability and you do not want to wear a face mask on the bus, you can show the ‘Please be supportive. I’m exempt from wearing a face covering’ card to people to explain why you are not wearing one.
You can contact Brighton and Hove Bus Company on 01273 886200 or message them on 07583 051915 to have one sent to you or you can ask Speak Out on 01273 421 9321
Please take a look at the Helping Hand link where you can also apply for a card online https://www.buses.co.uk/helpinghand
