Your good health this Christmas. But what about theirs?
People with learning disabilities experience many health inequalities compared with the general population.
‘Attending Speak Out training was a great opportunity to hear from people who have different lived experiences.’
We all want to enjoy good health this Christmas – but for some of us it’s easier than others.
People with learning disabilities face huge health inequalities, including a shorter life expectancy. They have a higher level of health needs which fail to be met as a result of barriers they face accessing the health care they need when they need it.
Speak Out supports local people to campaign to raise awareness of this issue; and the need for Easy Read health information and adjustments that make health services including hospitals, GPs, and pharmacies easier to use. Speak Out trainers have been promoting the Thumbs Up for good health campaign and have trained over 200 frontline health workers so that they understand the issues and improve the experience of people with learning disabilities.
Please support our work to raise awareness and improve lives .
Donate just £6 today or £1 (or more if you’d like to) for every day of Advent to help us support people with learning disabilities to have their voice heard.
